Alyssa Ranson, MACP - Counseling Intern
I am a Master’s level counselor and psychotherapist in Fort Collins, Colorado. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2015 from the University of Chester, and am completing my Master’s of Addictions Counselling at CSU. I have experience working with both adolescents and adults in mental health and substance abuse inpatient facilities.
While I was originally trained primarily in addictions counseling, I have recently found my way into a much wider range of mental health disorders and concerns. I believe that an empathetic and judgement-free environment is crucial to a successful therapeutic relationship and aim to meet clients in their comfort zone before moving forward together. I am open to working with a variety of concerns, although I have found myself working most often with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and relationship issues. I like to embrace techniques from various types of therapies, but I lean mostly on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Attachment-based techniques. My goal is to work under the assumption that each client has different needs, and to remain flexible and aware of changes in needs.
I was born and raised in a small town in West Virginia, where my interest in the mental health field first developed. Seeking a new experience, I moved to England for school, where I quickly got used to rainy weather and a completely different environment from what I had grown used to. I finally moved out to Fort Collins, Colorado to earn my Master’s degree, and begin my career as a counselor. Outside of work, I enjoy photography and walks with my dog, Sam.
