Being in middle school is such a strange time. On the one hand, you want have more time to yourself and be independent, but you also realize that you need your parents and friends more than ever.
This sort of tension can make relationships really difficult and can feel really frustrating. Sometimes it can feel like you just don't know how to talk with your friends and family. Other times it may feel like you just don't know what to do in certain situations and that can make your emotions feel huge!
The stress you feel can be overwhelming. Your anger can make you feel like you're out of control. And you may just have a hard time connecting with people. Maybe you feel like you're misunderstood by everyone.

We focus on teaching and practicing skills to effectively navigate emotions and relationship in your daily life. The group is an 8-week series based on DBT skills, focused on teaching and practicing skills (more like attending a class than being in a therapy group). Each session will be 90-minutes. Clients are expected to attend all 8 weeks, in order to learn all the skills we will discuss.
Each group session consists of:
- A mindfulness exercise at the beginning
- Learning a new skill
- Some sort of discussion and activity
- We'll end the group by assigning an exercise that focuses on how to practice the skill for the upcoming week.
For parents we include:
- A parent orientation at the beginning
- A check-in session about halfway through the series
- Parent resource packets and plenty of educational materials
