“Love is everything it’s cracked up to be…It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don’t risk anything, your risk is even greater.”
– Erica Jong, author
Couples counseling can feel like a risk. It involves vulnerability, honesty, and allowing your partner or spouse to truly “see” you and support you. Many couples that we work with have lost this willingness to be genuine with one another and instead find themselves repeating unhelpful patterns over and over. In couples counseling, we’ll work to help you gain mutual understanding and acceptance of one another so that you can enjoy your relationship again. Dr. Sharp practices Emotionally Focused Therapy to help couples work through:
- Problems in communication
- Sexual & intimacy concerns
- Family of origin issues
- Infidelity & lack of trust
Emotionally Focused Therapy (or EFT) is an approach to couples counseling that focuses on changing the negative “dance” that most of us get stuck in during arguments. Partners learn what’s driving their emotional responses and how to change these responses to increase connection with one another. EFT is based on years of research and has a proven track record in helping couples feel more connected.
