Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
I am a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner practicing in Fort Collins, Colorado. I graduated from University of Washington-Seattle School of Nursing with a Master’s in Nursing (MN) in May 2010 and my specialty focus as an Advanced Practice Nurse is Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health nursing (ages 13 and older). I have 8 years of experience as a board-certified psychiatric mental health clinician within the university clinic setting. Prior to obtaining my graduate degree, I served 6 years as a Navy nurse and enjoyed tours in San Diego, Cuba, and Bremerton, WA.
In addition to conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and regular medication management sessions for clients, I utilize motivational interviewing and an integrative approach for therapy.
My experience in working with clients in a general psychiatry clinic setting has taught me that I value time with clients to best address various goals in addition to interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues. While my background is that of a generalist in psychiatry, I also have experience in caring for individuals with ADHD, autism, and learning disorders. I also have experience as a provider working with those who identify as LGBTQ and have enjoyed serving as a member of the university’s transgender health team.
As a psychiatric provider, I feel it is most important to first build a therapeutic relationship with clients and aim for a holistically-minded treatment course. I often say it is critical to consider medication as a “piece of the pie” when looking at the larger clinical picture and implications for mental wellness. I also enjoy exploring a client's background, beliefs, and genetics during the course of treatment.
To share a little about my personal background, I was born in Aurora, CO and grew up as an Army “brat” (five different homes in 3 states and 2 countries before the age of 7). My family settled in southern Missouri from elementary through high school. I completed my undergraduate nursing degree in Northfield, MN at Saint Olaf College and migrated west as a Navy nurse after college before eventually landing back in the Centennial state in 2010. My family and I enjoy all that Colorado offers with outdoor adventuring, camping, and a variety of sports - depending on the season.
